I wish this photo were a little better but it was hard to get any contrast while zooming in on this sign behind the cash register at our local export supermarket.
It reads: Cigarette, Wine, library can not be discounted. Wouldn’t kids be much more interested in hanging out at the library if it also included a cigarette and wine section? Although I’m not sure anyone would want to use cigarettes and wine that had been borrowed by someone else and returned.
There’s nothing wrong with this sign; it just struck me as refreshingly polite.

I love the Chinglish. It reminds me of being back in Asia.

Love the first sign. It’s priceless. What is the thrid photo? I just see a gray square with a small red “x” in the upper, left-hand corner. Invisible Chinglish?

It seemed to work when I first posted. Should be working now. I say sorry for troubling you.

I know I would hang out a lot more at the library if cigarettes and wine were allowed. Wait, I think maybe that is how I got banned for life. Sigh.

Note to Readers: The refreshingly polite sign is actually the picture at the top of the post… “Repairing We say sorry for troubling you.”
Hmm…. interesting that the picture you noted, GG, does not work properly. Will you extend such a polite apology for troubling us?

Cigarette, wine, library can not be discounted as a marvelously refreshing break from the tedium of watching TV.

Cigarette and wine will give the library more significant ammo in its battle against TV.

I knew that I’ve been a grammar teacher for too long when I looked at the sentence and thought, “Yes, yes, the library word choice is odd and inadvertently funny, but holy crap, they used the passive voice correctly!” I hang my head in geeky shame.

I’m “sorry for troubling you” with yet another reason to love yourself. Another award to stack on top of your bulging award display! My blog mentor has been awarded the Versatile Blogger Award. Something that happens daily, no doubt. http://reinrantnrave.wordpress.com/2011/12/04/versatile-blogger-award-giddy-and-full-of-gratitude/

I’d love a library with cigarettes and a coffee / juice bar ! (I don’t really fancy wine)..in fact its always been this not so secret dream of mine to open a book shop, where people can buy books or browse the books while sipping on some coffee or juice. And there would be a special section for those that would like to smoke while doing so.
